My spontaneous creative process guides me towards un-for-seen twists and turns. The 'accident' directs the process. The result is a surprise, a playful happening and a joy for me when the result is pleasing. A journey through form, colour and texture becomes a personal creation. A subtle intent to connect the visual pleasure of seeing colour flow and patterns form upon the canvas stems from pure intuition. My artwork draws the viewer into the work through my imagination and theirs.
My artworks are impressions of the Australian landscape. often with an aerial perspective influenced by my experiences of flying over this vast country. The mixed media I use is purposely selected to express my response to the textures and patterns of the landscapes and seascapes. The composition moves beyond the edges of the surface, expanding the imagery to convey a sense of unlimited space, a continuum of Nature.
"This is Australia, the space so deeply felt within. This country gives me a sense of awe and tranquility I hope to capture in my paintings."

Process
I combine fine silica sand with acrylics - using a technique I call " A Dialectic Aqua Technique" which I have developed. The sands are collected from beaches in the South West of Western Australia, where it is fine and squeaky clean. The binders and varnishes used throughout the process results in a very stable surface. The silica crystals catch the light giving the final image luminosity and texture - enticing the viewer to touch the surface.
Influence
I was bprn in Canada in 1941 and moved to Sydney in 1970 where I worked as a Physiotherapist. I began studies in the visual arts part time concentrating on Life Drawng. My love for charcoal and pastels continued when I moved to Darwin in 1983. While continuing my career, I attended the Northern Territory University at night to complete my BA ( Fine Arts) Degree majoring in Printmaking (1994). I moved to Fremantle in 1994 and later retired from the Health Profession to immerse myself in painting full time.
My career as a Health Professional for the NT Department of Health (1983-93) gave me the opportunity to fly over the top end viewing vast areas of undulated land and ancient earth colours. Now, several times a year, flying back and forth from Perth to Darwin continues to inspire me to use the aerial perspective for my impressions of the landscape. Camping trips throughout Western Australia also provide closer views of the landscape to assist in studying the natural hues and to collect sand for my compositions.
My studio is perched upon the cliff just below the landmark Heritage Roundhouse in Fremantle. Facing the Indian Ocean, the beaches and the blue blue skies add to the contented esixtence of creating art. I welcome visitors to view my work and can be contacted on my mobile:
